WE'RE HIRING !

bullet We are looking for qualified Pilates, Gyrotonic, and Functional Fitness Instructors from a reputable program and past experience.

We treasure the people who come to us for fitness, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. Therefore, experience and knowledge in rehabilitation, corrective exercise, and/or other bodywork techniques is required for our team. We value strong, professional work ethic and want you to bring your passion to our studio!

We also offer the option of renting space in our studio to work with your own clientele. If you are a Trainer, Physical Therapist of Bodyworker interested in renting space, please ask about hour rates and hours of availability.

SWELLA Program

bullet We are excited to launch our new SWELLA program.

The goal is to help you move better, feel better, and get stronger, in the shortest amount of time. We take an integrated approach by using movement training in Pilates, Gyrotonic and/or Functional Fitness, alongside bodywork on a regular basis, to give the best results.

We closely track our Swella client's progress over the 6-month program. Each individual is given a program plan to address their needs based on the initial SWELLA movement screen. Our trainers and practitioners work together with Jean Sullivan, director of ABOW, share notes, ideas and progress reports through our in-house system. Jean checks in with each participant to evaluate their progress and adjust the program where needed.

NEW CLASSES !

bullet Better Breathing, Posture, and Balance at Any Age with Natazha Bernie
Mondays and Wednesdays: 8:30 - 9:45am

This class is designed to improve your breathing, posture, and balance which are the foundation for health, fitness, and wellbeing. What many people don't realize is that we use the same core muscles for all three functions of breathing, posture, and balance. The class uses principles from child development, physical therapy, Pilates, and yoga to strengthen your core muscles and improve your alignment. It's a mixed levels class that incorporates breathing, balance, flexibility, strength, and core-conditioning exercises. The instructor is a licensed physical therapist with 25 years experience teaching Pilates and yoga.

bullet Gyrotonic Tower Level 1 Class with Annie Leonard
Tuesdays 7:00 - 8:00 pm

The GYROTONIC® Tower is a specialized piece of equipment using weights on a pulley system, that facilitates fluid movement for the spine, muscles and joints. Experience moving the body in multiple planes while integrating flexibility with strength training. Tying in elements from Tai Chi, gymnastics and swimming, you will get a well rounded workout with a rhythmic component which energizes the nervous system and increases overall wellness. Space is limited to 4 per class.

New Trainers

Harriet McMeekin
Harriet is a firm believer that exercise is for everyone, no matter what your current level of fitness, and that GYROTONIC® exercise is wonderful way to challenge and invigorate your body in a coordinated, integrated, and fun way. She is certified in the Gyrotonic method (2010), GYROKINESIS® (2012), and followed up with a comprehensive Pilates certification through Balanced Body. She had the opportunity to apply her knowledge of the rehabilitative possibilities of both Pilates and Gyrotonic exercise to her personal recovery process and successful return to her dance career after hip surgery in 2012. Harriet brings her experiences with Pilates, cycling, competitive swimming, Alexander Technique, Laban Movement Analysis, and The Franklin Method - in addition to a variety of classical, modern, and social dance techniques - to her teaching.


Chelsea Mao
Chelsea Mao is a certified Pilates and Yoga instructor, and has been teaching mindfulness-based movement for more than a decade. She completed ITT Pilates' 450-hour Comprehensive Pilates Teacher training in 2015, and her 200-hour yoga teacher training in 2004 at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in Kerala India. Chelsea's athletic background includes running, field hockey and lacrosse (she played four years of Division I Women's Lacrosse at UC Berkeley), as well as dance, cycling, rock climbing and capoeira. Aside from Pilates and yoga, her current physical pursuits include hiking, surfing, and keeping up with her super-active and adorable black lab. Chelsea enjoys working with individuals of all ages and fitness levels. Her clients range from multi-sport athletes to longtime yogis to people looking for inspiration and support in getting active again. She believes that awareness provides the foundation for change, and that Pilates helps us to develop this awareness while building healthy movement patterns. Her goal is to help people connect with a sense of healing, joy, freedom and strength through Pilates.

Annie Leonard, Massage therapist, Pilates and Gyrotonic Instructor
With a heavy ballet background, this San Franciscan native discovered Gyrotonic throughout her years of dancing experience. She has studied under Henry Berg and followed him to the Joffrey Ballet to teach rehabilitation with the San Francisco Ballet. She believed that there should be a broader approach to body work than just dance so she then headed to the National Holistic Institute where she earned her certification as a massage therapist. This women of many talents is already taking SF by storm, and we can’t wait for you to work with her!
