Understanding the LUMBO-PELVIC JUNCTION

A workshop for physical therapists, Pilates Instructors, and healthcare professionals designed to assess and restore the mobility and functionality of the lumbo-pelvic juncture. This workshop will cover:
  • Assessment
  • Manual release techniques uniquely developed by Laurie Hall from extensive study of kinesiology and varied manual therapies
  • Functional movement exercises to maintain the newly restored lumbo-pelvic juncture
Laurie Hall began her bodywork studies in the mid-80's through a series of mentorships. She obtained her massage certification through National Holistic Institute in 1990. In 1996 she was involved in a debilitating car accident which lead her to Pilates. Impressed with what she likes to consider "movement medicine",  Laurie quickly realized the profound impact it was having on her pain management.  She pursued the study of Pilates and received her certification with Madeleine Black in 2001.  She has furthered her Pilates studies with Nora St. John and Mercy Sidbury. In 2002 she was introduced to kinesiology, biomechanics and myofascial release at Sharon Weiselfish's Center IMT.  Since 2003 Laurie has continued her studies and worked extensively with Jean Claude West. Functional Anatomy Series: Seeing Bodies and the Kinetic Chain

These workshops are designed for all Yoga, Pilates, fitness and bodywork students and professionals interested in deepening there knowledge and creativity. With a strong emphasis on integrating structure and function, these workshops approach the body in three dimensions and as a continuous network of muscle, connective tissue, and bone.
  • December 5th - Seeing Bodies
No two bodies are alike, and one size never fits all. This workshop will increase your ability to identify structural patterns in the body, a language to modify movement with verbal and hands-on cuing, and to choose which movements are supportive and which are contraindicated for specific body types. Detail to posture and alignment highlighted.
  • December 6th - The Kinetic Chain
Understand how the body adapts to weakness in one area by creating tightness in another, causing strain and often discomfort somewhere in between. This workshop will concentrate on tracing symptom to cause, and creating strategies to restore order to the muscular-skeletal system with appropriate movement and postural cues.

Michael Feldman has been in private practice for more than 20 years and has taught functional anatomy workshops nationwide, including the Yoga Journal Conference and the AMTA National Convention. Michael was certified by The Rolf Institute in 1992, and has studied Pilates with Romana Kryzanowska, yoga with John Friend and Julie Gudmestad, plus 15 years of kinesiology with Jean Claude West.
